At our modern production facilities in Skanderborg, NISSEN Energy develops, designs, and manufactures high-quality gas engine systems for efficient and reliable generation of both electricity and heat—also known as CHP (Combined Heat and Power) systems.
Our systems are engineered with a focus on high efficiency, long service life, and low operating costs, making them ideal for biogas plants, wastewater treatment facilities, and larger combined heat and power plants.
Our product range is broad, covering systems from 64 kW of electrical output up to 2,500 kW. This enables us to deliver solutions precisely tailored to each customer’s needs—whether for smaller installations or large, complex energy systems with high demands for capacity and operational reliability.
All our systems are based on gas engines from either MAN or MTU Rolls-Royce—both renowned for German engineering at the very highest level. By combining these robust engine platforms with our Danish expertise, experience, and system design, customers benefit from a strong, thoroughly proven solution in which all components work seamlessly together.
To ensure high quality and full control over the entire process, we build all control panels in our own workshop. This provides both flexibility and the ability to tailor the control system precisely to each individual installation—from simple standard solutions to advanced, customer-specific automation systems.
A gas engine system from NISSEN Energy can either be integrated into an existing building or delivered as a fully prefabricated, turnkey installation housed in a container—our so-called NISSEN PowerHouse. These complete units are constructed, tested, and ready for commissioning upon delivery, ensuring fast and trouble-free on-site installation and a rapid start-up phase.
In other words, we don’t just offer a product—we deliver a complete energy solution where quality, reliability, and Danish engineering expertise go hand in hand.
biogas CLEANING
Why Gas Cleaning?
NISSEN Energy develops and delivers customized gas pretreatment systems that ensure efficient and reliable cleaning of biogas prior to use in gas engine systems, boilers, or upgrading plants. Our solutions combine gas cooling and filtration using activated carbon and are designed to handle the typical challenges associated with biogas production.
Biogas coming directly from the digester/reactor typically has a low pressure of 5–20 mbar and a high moisture content. In addition, the gas may contain siloxanes and sulfur in the form of hydrogen sulfide, depending on the type of biomass used. These substances make the gas unsuitable as fuel for gas engines and can lead to significant operational issues: water reduces the calorific value and affects emissions, siloxanes form harmful deposits on pistons and cylinder heads, and sulfur causes corrosion in heat exchangers and exhaust systems while increasing oil consumption.
To eliminate these challenges, NISSEN Energy offers its own gas treatment systems that ensure effective gas cleaning, allowing downstream equipment to operate optimally and with high reliability. Our systems are always sized and customized to the specific installation to ensure maximum performance and stability.
Gas Cooling – A Crucial First Step
When biogas leaves the digester, it is typically saturated with water vapor and has a temperature between 37°C and 55°C (98°F to 131°F). As the temperature drops, the water vapor condenses and can cause corrosion in engines, pipelines, gas filters, valves, and heat exchangers. At the same time, water vapor negatively affects combustion efficiency.
To ensure high efficiency and avoid downtime, effective gas cooling and removal of condensate are essential. NISSEN Energy supplies gas coolers specifically sized to the required gas flow, ensuring that both gas engines and downstream process equipment operate under optimal conditions.
Our gas cleaning systems are designed with flexibility in mind and can handle varying gas qualities and flow rates. Filtration using activated carbon efficiently removes siloxanes and sulfur compounds, resulting in a consistent, clean biogas ready for stable combustion in gas engines or for processing in a gas upgrading plant.
We support our customers throughout the entire process—from consulting and design to installation and ongoing service—ensuring a solution that maximizes biogas utilization and delivers reliable operation for many years.
With a gas cleaning system from NISSEN Energy, you get more than just gas treatment—you get a carefully engineered, tailored solution that protects your equipment, reduces operating costs, and ensures stable and efficient energy production.
